Transport

Getting to Sleat is easy. Although Skye is an island in the north west of the Scottish Highlands a modern communications network ensures you can be here from any part of the UK in less than a day. In fact by flying into Inverness Airport we are only another two hours away!

By Car

Follow the signs for THE NORTH and then to FORT WILLIAM. Here you have to choose whether to go across to Skye by the Skye bridge at KYLE OF LOCHALSH (A87) or by CALEDONIAN MACBRAYNE ferry from MALLAIG A830 (see by Sea below) Which ever route you choose why not print off a copy of our click map to make sure you have a note of the road numbers and town names

Car Hire:
There are several car hire companies locally and elsewhere. Some can arrange for a car to be left at Inverness airport (or Kyle railway station for example) for you on arrival and then returned when you depart. There are also local companies who may be suitable for vehicle hire during your stay with us.
There is also a local TAXI SERVICE

By Sea
Over the sea to Skye ... many people prefer to come to Armadale in Sleat via Mallaig on the Caledonian MacBrayne Car Ferry. Note that in these parts the company is usually referred to as Cal-Mac. You can see the current fares and timetables for ARMADALE - MALLAIG car and passenger ferry by clicking HERE

By Train

Trains run frequently to Mallaig from Fort William (and of course the rest of the British rail betwork). You can even travel by STEAM TRAIN
If you prefer you can also travel via Kyle of Lochalsh, which is on the mainland, just over the Skye Bridge. Trains travel to and from Inverness. Please check with your agent or National Rail Enquiries for further information on timetables 0345 484 950 (24 hour helpline). You can also click HERE for an on-line Train Timetable and Planner

By Air
The nearest commercial airport is Inverness, about 100 miles (2 ½ hrs drive) away. Transfers to Inverness can be obtained from London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Inverness Airport has its own web site HERE
There is an airstrip at Broadford (about 30 miles away) which is unmanned but is available for landing of light aircraft. Phone the Highland Council Roads & Transport Department on 01478 612727 for more information. There is a charge for use of the strip depending on the type of aircraft, other details required are landing and take-off times. A few days notice is preferred in order for access to be assured.

By Bus (Coach)
There are coaches from Inverness and Glasgow that go to Skye. However if are travelling via the Skye Bridge you will need to get off the coach at BROADFORD and then get the RAPSONS bus to Armadale or alight anywhere along the route.
Coming from Mallaig is a simpler matter. Just take the bus to Mallaig (or train) and then the ferry to Armadale. There you can pick up the Rapsons local bus service to all the village along the rote to Broadford. The RAPSONS web site is HERE and the CITYLINK web site is HERE

The Skye Bridge
This is a bridge that connects The Isle of Skye to mainland Scotland at Kyle of Lochalsh. There is now NO toll to cross over the sea to Skye.
