Hotel Eilean Iarmain

Hotel Eilean Iarmain, also known as Isle Ornsay Hotel, is small and privately owned, situated on a sheltered bay in the south of Skye, with expansive views over the Sound of Sleat to the hills of Knoydart on the mainland.

People have been coming here for over a hundred years, drawn by a love for the landscape of this Hebridean island, its geology, botany, ornithology, history, culture and language. Writers and historians, poets and artists come for inspiration and knowledge. Others come for the peace of the hills and sea.

"The Gaelic Inn by the sea"

We are open all year, enabling visitors to experience Skye in all seasons. Winter can be particularly cosy, when sunlit days make long shadows on the hills, and there are evenings by log fires, often with music and Gaelic song.

Environmental tours, boat and pony trips, trout fishing, stalking and shooting can be arranged in advance.

Our policy has been to keep the old fashioned character of the hotel intact, in order to retain its Highland charm and old world atmosphere.

The rooms are decorated in cotton and linen chintzes, with traditional furniture. There are log fires in the reception rooms, and a wood panelled dining room where candlelit dinners can be enjoyed overlooking the bay and the island of Ornsay.

There are two sitting rooms and two dining rooms, and so private dinners can be accommodated.

The hotel has four suites, recently created from the restored stables. Each has a double bedroom upstairs, and a cosy sitting room below with a sofa bed. The interiors are light and airy, with toile and check fabrics with painted and pine furniture. The view is across the water to the lighthouse of Isle Ornsay.

There are twelve other bedrooms (six in the Garden House) each with its own individual character. Some rooms are wood-lined, and one has a 19th century canopied bed from nearby Armadale Castle.

The hotel has won many awards for its cuisine, wine list, hospitality and comfort. In 1997 it was chosen as "the most romantic hotel in Great Britain and Ireland".

We like to offer our guests cuisine that sustains health, and satisfies indulgence. Dinner consists of four courses, with three choices at each stage. The menus reflect the abundance of fresh local produce from the Estate, specialising in shellfish and game. Langoustines arrive at the old stone pier, and oysters from the hotel's own oyster beds. Special menus can be arranged in advance.

The wine list is personally chosen by Sir Iain and Lady Noble, with changing themes. It has received Les Routiers Corps d'Elite Wine Awards.

Our second dining room can be used for intimate dinners and celebrations. Larger events, such as weddings, birthdays, concerts, ceilidhs, dances and informal conferences, can be catered for in two nearby halls: the Talla Dearg Gallery, and Talla Dhuisdeil.

We are looking forward to seeing you.
