DUISDALE COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL

Situated overlooking the sound of Sleat, The Duisdale is a short drive from the Armadale ferry terminal or a brief car journey from Skye bridge.

Upon Arrival at the Duisdale you will be shown to your comfortable en-suite bedroom by one of our friendly members of staff.

Later you could enjoy a pre-dinner drink in our Library. Then make your way into The Duisdale Dining room where you will enjoy some of the finest cuisine in the West of Scotland, consisting of fresh local fish and game, as well as fresh herbs and vegetables from The Duisdale gardens. Coffee and after drinks can be enjoyed in the Lounge in front of the warm log fire.
In the morning you will awake to mist creep over the mountains of Glenelg & Knoydart and a full Scottish breakfast, served in the Garden Conservatory.

However long or short, your stay at The Duisdale will be both comfortable and enjoyable but most importantly memorable.

Grounds of Duisdale
The gardens are abundant with mature shrubs and plants reminiscent of the Horticultural of a bygone era. You can spend the afternoon taking a leisurely walk up Meal Buidhe which offers an inspiring view of the surrounding countryside and the secluded Loch an Lasgaich, which was a favourite with Victorian Anglers.

The Herons, Ptarmigans, elusive Stags and ever-present local Black Face Sheep represent merely a glimpse of the abundant wildlife which can be seen in the glens around the Duisdale.

You can stroll around the easily accessible forest walk, or along the beach. The grounds also feature a croquet lawn and putting green for those lazy summer afternoons.

RESTAURANT
You are treated like one of the family with good Scottish cooking, (so good in fact we have been awarded two rosettes by the AA).

The hotel uses many fresh herbs and vegetables which have been grown in the garden. During the strawberry season, the Duisdale's excellent strawberries feature on the breakfast and dinner menus.

ROOMS
All rooms in the Duisdale Country House Hotel are sumptuously decorated with a tartan accent which runs through the decor of the whole hotel. Enter one of the reception rooms and you could find warm company and a roaring log fire, or perhaps you'd prefer a quiet corner to just read or relax, both can be found when you stay at the Duisdale Country House Hotel.

The welcoming dining rooms main feature is a collection of blue and white china which compliments the delft tiles originally bought over from Holland when the house was built

Most of our bedrooms have magnificent views of the garden, sea and mountains. Others overlook the Scots Pine Wood. As well as twin and single bedded rooms there are four poster king size beds draped in Lindsay Tartan and antique rose print which would add a touch of romance to any stay. Like all of the rooms in the hotel the bedrooms are complimented by antique furnishings.

All bedrooms are equipped with en-suite bath and showers.

HISTORY
Built in 1867 The Duisdale was originally used as a hunting lodge. After brief usage as a private residence, the Duisdale was requisitioned by the Royal Navy for the duration of the Second World War. Click HERE to read the highly acclaimed recollections of Duisdale Hotel 1940-1944 by Peter Marten. Peter's father was the Commanding Officer and so his son had a unique insight into these fascinating war years on Skye.

Duisdale, is surrounded by rich gardens and wooded policies and enjoys a commanding view over the Sound of Sleat. For generations a family of MacKinnons had acted as standard bearers to the Macdonalds of Sleat, and was enfeoffed at Duisdale beg for its services. A visitor in 1912 found the house 'modern and luxurious', and was impressed by the dinner table, 'set with candles in silver candle sticks with red shades, flowers from the conservatory in crystal vases, and six or seven courses of delicious food'. In short, 'one would fancy from the richness of the carpets, beauty of decoration and perfect cuisine, that one had been transported to London, instead of being in the wilds of Skye' (Isobel Macdonald, A Family in Skye, 1908-1916.)
