Eilean Iarmain
- Isleornsay (pron ellan earman, and isle ornsay, means
dry island). A very pretty harbour, with a hotel, shop,
art gallery and Skye's first public toilet (1820). It
was a main west coast herring port, with a busy shop
and salt store in the harbour buildings and is now part
of Fearann Eilean Iarmain, the local estate. Gavin Maxwell
of otter-writing fame lived in the lighthouse cottage.
